Market Update for Tuesday 7 May 2024
In Vegetable and Salad lines:
- Brussels Sprouts have started. Yellow Squash is available too.
- Long Red Chillies are unavailable due to poor quality.
- Red Capsicum is in-between seasons. The available fruit is small and expensive.
- Most Vegetable and Salad lines are good but prices are firm due to light supply.
The best seasonal vegetable and salad items are:
- Pumpkin
- Sweet Potato
- Brushed (Dirty) Potatoes
- Beans
- Zucchini
- Lebanese Cucumber
- Avocados
- Baby Cos Lettuce
- Salad Mix, Baby Spinach and Rocket
In Fruit,
- Pineapples and Rockmelons are nice. Seedless Watermelon has tightened and Honeydew melons are unavailable. We have stopped Red Papaya due to quality issues.
- Navel Oranges, Imperial Mandarins and Ruby Grapefruit are in season. Limes and Lemons are good too. Valencia Oranges are finishing and available in 2nds only.
- Pink Lady, Gala, Jazz and Granny Smith Apples are in season. Store apples covered in the fridge to keep them crisp.
- Packham and Nashi Pears are also in season.
- Bananas are good.
- Australian Red Seedless Grapes are very good. We have finished Green Grapes.
- Australian Kiwifruit have started. NZ Kiwi Gold are available too.
- Plums have finished.
- Strawberries are good but expensive. Blueberries are unavailable.
- Passionfruit are nice. We have finished Pomegranates for this season.
