Market Update for Tuesday 27 April 2021
In Vegetable and Salad lines:
- Shepard Avocados are in season.
- Asian Vegetables and Herbs are in short supply. All Herbs are now half bunch minimum unit.
- Eggplant, Red Capsicum and Lebanese Cucumbers are also scarce.
- Most other vegetable and salad lines are good and prices are reasonable.
The best seasonal vegetable and salad items are:
- Pumpkin
- Brushed (dirty) Potatoes
- Beans
- Broccoli
- Brussels Sprouts
- Avocados
- Celery
- Regular Tomatoes
- Salad Mix, Baby Spinach and Rocket
In Fruit,
- Pineapples are nice.
- Rockmelons, Honeydew and Seedless Watermelon are good but supply has tightened.
- Red Papaya is unavailable due to supply and quality issues.
- Australian Navel Oranges and Imperial Mandarins are in season. Lemons, Limes and Ruby Grapefruit are available too. Valencia Oranges (2nds) are still available in 3kg bags.
- Pink Lady, Jazz, Gala, Red Delicious and Granny Smith Apples are in season. Store apples covered in the fridge to keep them crisp.
- Packham, Beurre Bosc and Nashi Pears are also in season. Quinces are available too.
- Bananas are in short supply.
- Australian Green and Red Seedless Grapes are still available. Red Grapes are the best.
- Australian Kiwifruit have started.
- Plums are still nice.
- Strawberries are nice but we have stopped Blueberries due to quality issues.
- Passionfruit are available and good.
Other Items,
- Free-Range Eggs, Medjool Dates and Honey are available. Eggs are abundant and cheap.
