Market Update for Sunday 18 July 2021
In Vegetable and Salad lines:
- Soup Packs are back and we have added Fioretto (long stem cauliflower blossom) to our list.
- Corn is scarce and available in pre-pack only. Eggplant, Cucumbers and Iceberg Lettuce are also in short supply.
- Most other vegetable and salad lines are good and prices are reasonable.
The best seasonal vegetable and salad items are:
- Jap Pumpkin
- Sweet Potato
- Brushed (dirty) and Chats (small white) Potatoes
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Brussels Sprouts
- Capsicum
- Avocados
- Celery
- Fennel
- Regular Tomatoes
- Leeks
- Salad Mix, Baby Spinach and Rocket
In Fruit,
- Pineapples, Rockmelons and Honeydew are good. Papaya is back in too.
- Watermelon is out of season.
- Australian Navel Oranges, Imperial Mandarins, Tangelos, Lemons and Ruby Grapefruit are all in season and good value. Limes are scarce and expensive.
- Pink Lady, Jazz, Gala, Red Delicious and Granny Smith Apples are all very good. Store apples covered in the fridge to keep them crisp.
- Packham, Beurre Bosc and Nashi Pears are also nice.
- Bananas are more abundant and slightly cheaper.
- Green Grapes have finished but Australian Red Seedless Grapes are still good.
- New Zealand Green Kiwifruit and Kiwi Gold are in season and very good.
- QLD Strawberries are starting but Blueberries are out of season.
- Passionfruit are available and good.
Other Items,
- Free-Range Eggs, Medjool Dates and Honey are available. Eggs are abundant and cheap.
