Market Update for Tuesday 30 September 2014

In Vegetable and Salad lines;

  • Regular Tomatoes and Cucumbers are more abundant and back to a normal price. Truss, Cherry and Grape Tomatoes are still scarce & expensive.
  • Australian Asparagus has started and is nice.
  • The quality of most other vegetable and salad lines is good and prices are reasonable.

The best value vegetable and salad items are:

  • JAP and QLD Blue Pumpkin
  • Brushed (still dirty) Potatoes
  • Cauliflower & Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Zucchini
  • Choko
  • Green and Red Capsicum
  • Celery
  • Snow Peas
  • Button Mushrooms
  • Asian Vegetables
  • Silverbeet & English Spinach
  • All Lettuces and Salad Mixes

In Fruit;

  • We have finished Fuji and started Sundowner Apples. Pink Lady, Gala, Red Delicious and Granny Smith Apples are all still available and good. Store apples covered in the fridge to keep them crisp.
  • Packham and Beurre Bosc Pears are still available and good. Nashi Pears have finished until next season.
  • Australian Navel Oranges and Tangelos are still very good. Blood Oranges are also nice.
  • Afourer Mandarins are still available but will finish soon. They are easy to peel, sweet, very juicy and have not many seeds. Imperial Mandarins have finished for this season.
  • Limes and Lemons are scarce and prices have firmed up again.
  • Bananas are very good and reasonably priced.
  • Mangoes have started and the quality is improving. The fruit is typically tangy at the start of the Mango season.
  • New Zealand Green Kiwi Fruit are in season and are excellent. We have finished up Kiwi Gold for this season.
  • Queensland Strawberries are very good but nearing the end of their season. Blueberries are also good.
  • We will have only Red Seedless Grapes from USA available this week. All Australian Seedless Grapes have finished and will be back in the summer.
  • Topless Pineapples, Red Papaya, Watermelon, Rockmelons and Honey Dew Melons and all good and prices are reasonable.
  • Passionfruit are scarce and more expensive at the moment.

Order your home delivered fruit and vegetables before 8:30 pm on Wednesday for delivery to Artarmon, Castle Cove, Castlecrag, Chatswood, Chatswood West, East Killara, East Lindfield, Gordon, Gordon East, Gordon West, Killara, Lindfield, Middle Cove, Northbridge, North Willoughby, Pymble (West side), Roseville, Roseville Chase, St Ives (South), Turramurra (West side), West Lindfield, West Pymble and Willoughby on Thursday afternoon or evening.
